Tuning Magnetic Properties of a Carbon Nanotube-Lanthanide Hybrid Molecular Complex through Controlled Functionalization

چکیده

Molecular magnets attached to carbon nanotubes (CNT) are being studied as potential candidates for developing spintronic and quantum technologies. However, the functionalization routes used develop these hybrid systems can drastically affect their respective physiochemical properties. Due complexity of this systems, little work has been directed at establishing correlation between degree magnetic character. Here, we demonstrate chemical associated with molecular magnet loading be utilized controlled tuning properties a CNT-lanthanide complex. CNT was evaluated by interpreting minor Raman phonon modes in relation reaction conditions. These findings were exploited attaching rare-earth-based (Gd-DTPA) CNTs. Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, time-of-flight secondary ion spectrometry super conducting interference device (SQUID) measurements elucidate variation character across samples. This Gd-DTPA on surface led significant change nanotube intrinsic diamagnetism, showing antiferromagnetic coupling increase Weiss temperature respect increased loading. indicates that synthesis highly correlated spin system novel technologies realized through carbon-based material.

Thermal Properties of Hybrid Carbon Nanotube/Carbon Fiber Polymer Composites

Carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites possess many advantages for aircraft structures over conventional aluminum alloys: light weight, higher strengthand stiffness-to-weight ratio, and low life-cycle maintenance costs. However, the relatively low thermal and electrical conductivities of CFRP composites are deficient in providing structural safety under certain operational conditions...

Tuning the compressive mechanical properties of carbon nanotube foam

A post-growth chemical vapor deposition (CVD) treatment was used to tune the compressive mechanical properties of carbon nanotube (CNT) arrays. Millimeter tall CNT arrays with low compressive resilience were changed to a foam-like material with high compressive strength and almost complete recovery upon unloading. The foam was tuned to provide a range of compressive properties for various appli...

Effect of Nanotube Functionalization on the Properties of Single-Walled Carbon Nanotube/Polyurethane Composites

A commercially available aliphatic thermoplastic polyurethane formulated with a methylene bis(cyclohexyl) diisocyanate hard segment and a poly(tetramethylene oxide) soft segment and chain-extended with 1,4-butanediol was dissolved in dimethylformamide and mixed with dispersed single-walled carbon nanotubes. The properties of composites made with unfunctionalized nanotubes were compared with the...

Magnetic brightening of carbon nanotube photoluminescence through symmetry breaking.

We report that symmetry breaking by a magnetic field can drastically increase the photoluminescence quantum yield of single-walled carbon nanotubes, by as much as a factor of 6, at low temperatures. To explain this we have developed a theoretical model based on field-dependent exciton band structure and the interplay of Coulomb interactions and the Aharonov-Bohm effect. This conclusively explai...
